Citizens Bank CD Rates June 2011

In order to obtain the best CD rates available from Citizens Bank, account holders have to hold an account among either the midterm CD accounts or long term CD products.  Citizens Bank CD rates on the short end of the curve are trailing the national average CD rates however, the long term CD rates offered by Citizens Bank exceed the national average rates.

Citizens Bank features three different categories of accounts.  The bank has standard CD accounts that have a low minimum balance requirement to open a CD.  The bank also offers a Circle account that requires a $5,000.00 minimum deposit in the CD account or as a combination of linked bank accounts at Citizens Bank.  A higher tiered account called the Circle Gold account requires a $20,000.00 balance in the CD account or $20,000.00 in combined linked accounts with the bank.  The benefit of the Circle account and Circle Gold accounts are better interest rates on bank products.

Citizens Bank CDs are available as standard fixed rate and fixed term CDs as well as a penalty free withdrawal CD called the breakable CD.  The breakable CD has a fixed CD interest rate and allows for one penalty free withdrawal during the CD term.

Citizens Bank is currently promoting a breakable CD with a 15 month term that has standard and Circle CD rate of 0.10% and a Circle Gold rate of 0.60%.

Standard CD rates promoted by Citizens Bank include the following samples:

Citizens Bank 6 month rate is 0.05% standard, 0.15% for Circle accounts and 0.20% for Circle Gold accounts.
1 year CD rate is 0.25% on standard accounts, 0.27% for Circle accounts and 0.30% for Circle Gold accounts.
18 month CD rate is 0.50% on standard accounts then moves up to 0.75% for the Circle accounts and reaches 1.00% for Circle Gold customers.
30 – 35 month CD rate starts at 0.90% standard, progresses to 1.10% for Circle and 1.30% for Circle Gold customers.
The Citizens Bank 5 year CD rate is 1.50% for standard accounts, Circle accounts are at 1.75% and 2.00% for Circle Gold.
